Dr. (Barrister) Anthonia K.P. Mbaeri

Dr. Anthonia K.P. Mbaeri (Ph.D.) is a professional with many hats. She obtained her 1st degree in Economics and Education from the prestigious University of Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria, from where she proceeded to the United Kingdom, where she attended Middlesex University to train as a nurse, in 2007, she took a break from working in hospitals and the community and focused on a private business of hair and beauty in order to enable her spend adequate time with her young family. She returned to the University of Hertfordshire United Kingdom in 2012 to train as a Lawyer, she obtained her LL.B, LL.M in Maritime Law, Legal Research and Compliance. She also holds a Pg.Cert in Commercial Mediation.

Dr. Mbaeri worked alongside the now late but renowned John Gunner in setting up the first-ever Mediation center at the University of Hertfordshire, a position she held until her appointment as the Consultant on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions by the National Assembly of Nigeria in 2015 until 2017. During her tenure, her attention was drawn to the plight of women living with VVF through a chance encounter with Dr. Sa’ad, leading to the birth of InterMediation Nigeria.

She currently works as a Decision Maker for the Immigration Tribunal in Canada and is also the Programme Coordinator for the Native Council PEI, for Gender-Based Violence Prevention. She sits on several Provincial and Federal boards charged with the Prevention and Reporting of Sexual Violence against women and girls in Canada, United Kingdom, and Nigeria.

Dr. Mbaeri is notably the first black African lawyer licensed to practice Law in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She is also licensed to practice Law in the province of Alberta, Nigeria in addition to her training in the United Kingdom.

Under her leadership, she has continued to champion the causes of women living with VVF, through personal funds, medical outreach programmes, and the empowerment of service users through skills acquisition in various areas of disciplines in various areas, including but not limited to baking, sewing, hairdressing, soap making, candle making, and much more, such is her passion that she trained as a pastry chef at the Holland College PEI Canada, in order to help facilitate these trainings. At the completion of the skills acquisition trainings, the participants are empowered with start-up funds and equipment.
